A well-constructed expert report earns its authority through clarity, structure and restraint. It sets out the instructions received, the materials reviewed and the methodology applied before it offers a single conclusion.
Structure
Readers should be able to follow the reasoning without specialist knowledge. Lead with the question, summarise the evidence, then reason towards the opinion, never the reverse.
Independence
The value of an expert opinion lies in its independence. The duty is to the tribunal, not to the instructing party, and a good report makes the limits of its own certainty explicit.
